Liquid limestone is a Western Australian paving product. It is made from crushed limestone and cream cement, poured and finished like concrete, so you get one continuous surface with the soft, pale look of sandstone and none of the grout lines of pavers. The pale colour stays cooler underfoot than grey concrete, which is why it is so popular around pools and on alfresco areas, though it still gets hot in a Perth summer. It is more porous and softer than standard concrete, so oil, rust and pool chemicals stain it unless it is sealed, and heavy 4WDs can mark it. For that reason exposed aggregate or honed concrete is usually the better choice for a driveway that takes daily vehicle traffic. A penetrating sealer goes on after the slab has cured, and most surfaces are resealed every few years. Fine hairline cracks can show up as it cures, which is why saw-cut joints are placed carefully.
